Yesterday was probably one of the best days of my life!
What did I do? Did I win a million dollars? Was I given a fat bonus from my work? Did I purchase the car of my dreams? Did I spend the day getting spa treatments and eating at the finest restaurants this city has to offer?
Well, no. It’s not what you think.
I spent the day weeding my front and side flower beds. While I did that, my daughter sat under her favorite tree and painted. We had the radio playing a baseball game, which I could barely hear so she gave me updates (my team lost!).
And I weeded. And we talked. We talked about school. We talked about life. We talked about my side of the family, who she rarely gets to see. We talked about Faith and God. You name it, we talked about it.
For two hours, I worked, she painted and we were just two beings enjoying the day and each others’ company.
My friend once told me I need more balance in my life, I needed to play more golf, and have more “me” time if you will. Uh-uh, no way. I could not even think of a better way to spend my Saturday. There will come a time (soon I might add) when my daughter will want nothing to do with me, so I am cherishing as many of these moments as I can!
Now, THAT, is true freedom!
